Nigerian Soldiers rescue 293 Girls, Women from Sambisa Forest
The Director of Defence Information, Maj. Gen. Chris Olukolade, has confirmed that Nigerian troops had on Tuesday rescued 200 girls and 93 women during a raid on the deadly Sambisa Forest.
When the news of the rescue was broken on the tweeter handle of the military on Tuesday, many Nigerians had gone online to speculate that the freed ladies included the Chibok schoolgirls.
However, Olukolade did not confirm whether or not the Chibok girls abducted by Boko Haram on April 14, 2014 were among the rescued ladies.
The Defence spokesman told Punch on the telephone that the tweets were the true position of the Army on its operations in Sambisa Forest.

Dogs Attacked Driver In Lagos
A 45-year-old commercial driver, Saturday Akpomose, narrowly escaped death last Saturday, after he was attacked by seven dogs at Ajah area of Lagos State. The timely intervention of residents and passers-by saved thedriver from the dogs.Akpomose, who hails from Akwa Ibom State, had gone to the area with his wife to visit his in-law, Mr. Christian Peter, when the dogs pounced on him.
Vanguard gathered that the dogs, owned by a Navy Captain, were being taken out to ease themselves at a nearby uncompleted building, when they saw Akpomose and pounced on him.The matter was reported at Ogombo Police Division, which referred Akpomose to the General Hospital at Akodo, for immediate treatment due to the severity of his injuries.

The Federal Government has reportedly suspended the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Danjuma Sheni, over the unauthorized recall of the Nigerian Ambassador to South Africa.

PDP releases press statement on AIT ban, says it's dangerous for democracy
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described as unacceptable the Monday’s directive by the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari to bar a television house, the AIT, from covering his activities, saying the suppression of the media under any guise portends danger for the nation’s democracy.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh in a statement on Tuesday said that after carefully studying the defence posited by General Buhari’s campaign spokesperson as well as the smokescreen statement by the APC to cover and mitigate his anti-media posture, the PDP and indeed all lovers of democracy are persuaded that the action was not only unjustifiable, but also unconstitutional and completely against the spirit of liberty and the rule of law in a democracy.

Okorocha Wins Imo Governorship Election
The Governor of Imo State and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr Rochas Okorocha, has been declared the winner of the Imo State Governorship election.
Okorocha was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after the supplementary election of Saturday. Governor Okorocha polled 416,996 votes while Mr Ihedioha of PDP got 320,705 votes.

Suspected Thief who Owned Master Key that Could Open Any Vehicle Arrested in Lagos (Photo)
A suspected thief arrested by the police in Lagos, Tokunbo Ojo, says a master key he owned made it easy for him to steal from vehicles during public functions such as weddings and burials.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Ojo recently got lucky as he stole N3.2m from a car parked at the campaign rally of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
49-year-old Ojo, who hails from Aramoko, Ekiti State, was nabbed by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad with the master key on Tuesday, April 14.
According to the police, the suspect consulted a welder in 2013 to make the master key for him, which he used to open parked vehicles, carting away money and other valuables in the vehicles.
Ojo had allegedly attended weddings, burial ceremonies, political campaigns and other functions where he used the key to break into parked vehicles.

The Nation, in a report last Saturday, has revealed that Jonathan was under pressure to give Abba the boot - for alleged security and protocol breaches.
Credible sources in the presidency have disclosed that First Lady Patience Jonathan played a pivotal role in the events leading to the sack of IGP Abba.
Abba, The Nation learnt, had earlier been summoned by the President to defend himself against allegations by some PDP leaders and security chiefs regarding his role in the March 28 and April 11 elections.
Abba got the push because he rebuffed a presidential directive to make some “strategic moves” that would have favoured the ruling party in the two elections, the sources said.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Suleiman Abba, yesterday, became the first major casualty of the just concluded general elections, which President Goodluck Jonathan and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, lost to the opposition.
The police officer, who was elevated to the post only last year, incurred the wrath of the Presidency on the eve of the governorship and House of Assembly elections for allegedly arguing with the government officials over the directive to recall the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in Charge of Zone 6, Tunde Ogunshakin, from Rivers State.

South African consul general in Nigeria, Sam Monaisa, said in an email to the South African business forum in that country that he has ordered the temporal closure of the Lagos consulate and that the closure would remain in force until Thursday.
The situation in Durban had calmed down, but he was concerned about the Nigerians that were being repatriated, he wrote.
He said Nigerians were using social media to blow an already tense situation in South Africa out of proportion and stoking emotions.

A man defended his home from four armed burglars by hacking pieces out of them with a Samurai sword.
Dias Costa, 49, slashed the face, arms, and necks of the raiders, who fled the property in a getaway car while dripping with blood. The burglary took place late at night in central Argentina - and all of the men are currently in intensive care.
According to DailyMail, Mr Costa, 49, and his wife Christina, 48, were asleep when the men, who were armed with two pistols, broke in at around 3.30am.
Police commissioner Mariano Zarate said:
'In a moment when the attackers were not paying attention, the house owner took aIn the panic, the thieves only managed to steal the equivalent of £278 and fled in a Peugeot 206 car which was parked outside.

Petroleum Minister, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, has said she is not seeking asylum in any part of the world, as claimed by her traducers.
Madueke, who spoke tonight through the Group Public Affairs General Manager of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Mr. Ohi Alegbe, denied ever contemplating relocating from Nigeria.
An online publication reported Tuesday that the minister had been denied asylum by six countries where she had so far applied but did not mention the countries involved.

Why Are Desperate Politicians Playing Ethnic Card in Lagos?
Will the next governor of Lagos be governor of Igbo, Hausa or Yoruba? The answer is no. The next governor should be the governor of all Lagosians, irrespective of tribe and religion.
But, why are politicians dividing the state along ethnic lines to gain upper hand at the governorship poll billed for Saturday? Why are they unscrupulously fanning the embers of disunity in Lagos?
Since Independence, Igbo and Yoruba have co-existed peacefully in Lagos. During the civil war, many Igbo hurriedly returned to the Southeast. Yoruba protected their property. The proceeds from their rents were handed over to them when they returned after the war. Igbo settlers have enjoyed the courtesy of their accommodating hosts, who have never discriminated against them.
